The Council required the rejuvenation of a run-down office building that had come back into their portfolio at the end of its lease. The concept was to create a business start-up unit that would capture the attention of local entrepreneurs and create a creative hub for Stratford upon Avon.
As budget was tight, we looked first at the essential fabric works necessary to bring the building back into use. We then worked with a local interior design practice to create a fit out of the building that met the brief of “not looking like another council building.” Working with a local small contractor, we created much of the internal fabric and furniture from recycled materials to create an “industrial chic” environment, that was extremely successful. The building was fully let within its first year of trading, and continues to prosper.
We worked very closely with like-minded individuals, both from a design perspective and the contractor, plus a willing client who bought into the ethos of the project to create something special from very little. Everyone concentrated on producing the best possible outcome for the limited budget – recruitment of the right people was key to this.
