Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital

Project Name:  Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
Location: Shrewsbury
Client: Catfoss / Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
Net Value: £2,000,000.00

The project was to provide a new Same Day Emergency Care centre (SDEC) adjacent to the existing accident and emergency department at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The building was to provide a 6 bed + 4 reclining chair wards with associated support facilities on the ground floor and office & welfare facilities on a second. Due to the urgent requirement for this accommodation, as part of the Trust’s response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, a modular solution was selected to provide the required accommodation in a fraction of the time of a traditional build.

Working in partnership with the Catfoss delivery team, we provided overall project management support to the design, manufacture and fit-out phases of the project. We provided client liaison throughout the project lifecycle and managed the successful handover process.

Our Response

Timeframe – 20-week programme from initial design to completion on site.

The fast timeframe meant that decisions were required instantly, and the normal design period was greatly reduced. Weekly full project team meetings were chaired by Tandem to ensure all aspects of the project were covered and signoffs achieved on time and in parallel with other work streams.

Handover of the building – providing clinical standards ready for next day operation while construction was being completed.

Due to the critical nature of getting the building operation the day after handover, the testing and commissioning of the building needed to be undertaken in parallel with the completion of the works. Tandem put together and controlled a comprehensive testing and commission programme, handover documentation, client snagging and handover process to assist in the delivery of the building on time and in an operational condition.
