Northampton General Hospital

Project Name:  New Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU)
Location: Northampton
Client: Catfoss/Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust
Net Value: £3,500,000.00

This project involved the provision of a replacement for the hospital’s existing Intensive Therapy / High Dependency Unit which was no longer fit for purpose. A further floor was added to the building to house medical staff offices, consultation rooms and additional ward space. The project has been given additional urgency by the Coronavirus pandemic and so a modular solution was chosen in order to benefit from a reduction in the construction phase from a typical new build.

Tandem were working in partnership with the delivery team to provide project management support, client liaison throughout the project and coordination with the adjacent retail development being undertaken by others over a similar timeframe.

Project Challenge Our Response
The adjacent retail development is providing enabling works to free up the site for ITU. The project has suffered several delays which have impacted the ITU delivery Regular liaison and coordination meetings were held with the adjacent developer to understand the impact of the delays. Further off-site fit-out has been undertaken.
The new building is connected to the existing hospital at a number of locations, impacting existing medical accommodation. A number of separate refurbishment works within the hospital have been managed by the team in order to prepare areas to receive the interface with the new building when installed.
