Lewisham Hospital – Paediatric Emergency Department

Project Name:  New Paediatric Emergency Department Extension
Location: Lewisham
Client: Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust
Net Value: £500,000.00

The project was to provide a paediatric assessment unit as an extension to the existing accident and emergency department at this busy London hospital. Due to the urgent requirement for this accommodation, as part of the Trust’s response to the Coronavirus Pandemic, a modular solution was selected to provide the required accommodation in a fraction of the time of a traditional build.

Working in partnership with the delivery team, we provided overall project management support to the design, manufacture and fit-out phases of the project. We provided client liaison throughout the project lifecycle and managed the successful handover process.

Our Response

Urgent need for accommodation.

We overlapped all processes (design, manufacture, site works, fit out) to ensure the quickest possible delivery of the accommodation. The building was handed over 12 weeks after initial instruction.

Works undertaken adjacent to the main ambulance entrance to the A&E department.

Installation of the modular units was undertaken early on a Sunday morning, to reduce the impact on ambulance access. Temporary access arrangements were put in place and managed dynamically by site staff to ensure no disruption to this critical service.

The programme didn’t allow time for detailed surveys in advance of commencement, and no existing survey information was available.

Following a fast-track ground investigation study, we worked with the team to produce a modified foundation solution, whilst groundworks were underway.
