This historic building had unfortunately over a number of years received some poor attempts at maintenance. The main gable end to the building was also becoming structurally detached from the building. A carefully coordinated rebuild of the gable end, roofing and feature dormy roof was required. This was all carried out with additional maintenance to ensure the listed building had certainty for many years to come. As a result, the value of the property was significantly increased.
Tandem provided advice to the client that a sympathetic and coordinated approach was required to both preserve existing elements and replace properly what was required. We also advised that this work should not be rushed, it needed to work with the seasons using traditional materials. Following establishing a detailed survey and a plan of work / specification for the proposed works, we engaged both English heritage and the local listed building team to ensure the work was approved. We provided project management and quantity surveying support along with many roll up your sleeves and get the job done properly approach.

On first inspecting the building, we found that the gable end needed immediate attention. Both structurally and to avoid any further damage from weathering. |
In parallel to drafting a strategy and commencing the early stages of the project, we immediately arranged a structural scaffold along with weather protection. This was installed with the foresight to also accommodate the future anticipated works. |

During the works, an unfortunate road traffic accident occurred along the high street. |
Tandem needed to arrange for immediate removal of damaged scaffolding, extract the vehicle from the wreckage and have the scaffold re-installed and works recommenced. This was all carried out within 48 hours. We also then coordinated the insurance claim.

From when Tandem first visited our building we had total confidence that things were going to be ok. We are delighted with the final result – the building feels solid again.
